Delhi: The first match of the double header played on Saturday in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 was very exciting, where despite the big score, the result of the match turned out to be shocking. In this match played between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), the performance of the batsmen was seen, where in the end the victory was in the name of Punjab.

The ‘real attraction’ of the match may have been KL Rahul’s historic innings, but the victory went to Shreyas Iyer’s team.

Delhi’s explosive batting, Rahul created history

Batting first, Delhi Capitals started aggressively and scored a huge score. KL Rahul batted incredibly for the team and scored 152* runs in just 67 balls. Rain of fours and sixes was seen in his innings.

Nitish Rana also played a great role along with Rahul. He scored 91 runs in 44 balls. There was a big partnership of 220 runs between the two batsmen for the second wicket, which took the team to a huge score of 264 runs.

Catches dropped, match slipped

Even after such a big target, Delhi team could not hold the match. A big mistake in fielding cost the team dearly. Especially Karun Nair’s two easy catches of Shreyas Iyer proved to be decisive. Taking advantage of these opportunities, Punjab’s batsmen completely overturned the match.

Strong innings of Iyer and Prabhasimran

While chasing the target, Punjab Kings also had an aggressive start. Captain Shreyas Iyer played an important inning of 71 runs in 36 balls. At the same time, Prabhsimran Singh batted brilliantly and scored 76 runs in 26 balls.

Thanks to the innings of both, Punjab completed the biggest run chase in T20 history by scoring 265 runs in just 18.5 overs.

Akshar Patel’s statement disappointed with the defeat

After the match, Delhi Capitals captain Akshar Patel expressed displeasure over the team’s performance. He clearly said that the team is making the same mistakes again and again. According to Akshar, if the bowlers are not supported on such a wicket and easy catches are dropped, then defeat is certain. He also admitted that the team missed many important opportunities, for which they had to pay the price in the form of defeat.

Punjab’s strength in points table

With this victory, Punjab Kings continued their excellent form in the season and secured the top position in the points table. On the other hand, Delhi Capitals had to suffer their fourth defeat in the season with the defeat in this match, due to which their position became a bit weak.
