With anticipations over the return of MS Dhoni for the upcoming MI vs CSK clash, the bowling coach Eric Simmons has provided an update on the veteran wicketkeeper.

He confirmed that despite the medical team’s assessment of MS Dhoni’s fitness on match day, the final call will be from the player.

“A decision on him (Dhoni) will be taken tomorrow by him and the medical staff, if he is absolutely ready to go,” Simmons said on the eve of the match.

Meanwhile, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has also not revealed MS Dhoni’s return date, but confirmed that he will return to action very sooner.

“We were playing a practice match which is where he snapped his calf. He wasn’t been able to run as comfortably as he would like to due to the injury. Since then, it’s been all about taking time on his recovery. He is getting there slowly. Maybe, he might feature in the next game or the one after that. He will back one day definitely,” Gaikwad said at an event.

The five-time champions, Chennai Super Kings, are set to face one of their biggest rival Mumbai Indians, in the IPL 2026 game played on April 23 at Wankhede Stadium.

With only two wins out of the first six games in the IPL 2026 season, the Chennai Super Kings will be aiming for a win against their arch rival.

Currently they are in the 8th position of the IPL 2026 points table. With a high intense clash is approaching, CSK has been hit with major injury concerns. They also lost their inform batter Ayush Mhatre due to hamstring injury.

However, the side has been boosted with Spencer Johnson joining the side who could be a replacement for the injured Khaleel Ahmed who has been ruled out of the tournament.
