3 teams have been decided for the playoffs of IPL 2014. Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad have qualified for the playoffs. The 68th match of IPL 2024 will be played on Saturday (May 18) between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings.

In such a situation, the match between RCB and CSK has turned into a knockout match. The team that wins will get a spot in the playoffs. So the losing team will be eliminated.

But Royal Challengers Bangalore have a different problem here. Faf du Plessis-led RCB are in such a quandary that they are likely to be out of the playoff race even after defeating CSK.

Actually, if RCB wants to make it to the playoffs, they need to beat CSK by 18 runs. But if RCB win by 17 runs or less then they will be out of playoff race as their net run rate is low. If RCB chase the target, they will have to reach the target before 18.1 overs against CSK.

RCB team will be out if they fail to reach the target with 11 or more balls remaining. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings need to beat RCB if they want to qualify. If CSK lose and their margin of defeat is less than 18 or less than 11 balls, then they will still go to the play offs.

How will both teams fare?

Well, there is another equation. But this is very difficult to do. The scenario is that both RCB and CSK can qualify.

If Lucknow Supergiants win their last league match against Mumbai Indians by a huge margin of 400 runs, their net run rate will be better than RCB. LSG will then have a chance to secure a spot in the playoffs. But this possibility is almost non-existent.

Lucknow will then have to pray that RCB's margin of victory in the RCB-CSK match should be less than 18 runs or 11 balls.
