Mumbai Indians have had a dreadful campaign in IPL 2024. With Hardik Pandya replacing Rohit Sharma as captain, the team failed to play well.
MI all-rounder Naman Dhir was given a chance by the management but he was not very successful in his debut season, scoring 78 runs in six matches at a strike rate of 152.04.
The 24-year old player from Punjab expressed that he has learned more from his mistakes than from his success.
“I believe that sometimes mistakes teach you more, and this season I learned a lot, including how to keep a cool head when things are not working well and how to approach different circumstances in an effort to build the innings,” Dhir said.
Dhir summarized MI’s lackluster season and a lack of support for veteran pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who battled courageously alone for the Mumbai Indians.
“We had a mixed season. Sometimes we batted good and sometimes we bowled good. Our coaches told us that despite of working hard, this was not our season. We endure that we will put our best effort and perform better in the next season.
“Jasprit bhai bowled fantastic. But he lacked support from the other bowlers of our team. We would still learn from this and hope we do better next year,” he remarked.
Bumrah, has picked up 20 wickets in the IPL 2024, is the standout player for the five-time IPL champions.
Dhir also commented that Mumbai Indians want to end the season with a victory and would play for pride on Friday.
“We’re gonna play for self-esteem. Our goal is to win the last game and close the campaign with a victory. It provides a chance for young people to display their abilities. Despite not having a great season, we consistently tried to give it all in every game,” Dhir stated.
Mumbai Indians will play their final IPL 2024 against Lucknow Super Giants on 17th May at the Wankhede Stadium.
