IPL 2026: Virat Kohli made a record even after getting out for 49 runs, this happened for the first time in history

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) opening batsman Virat Kohli made a special record in the IPL 2026 match played against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday (April 15). Kohli, who was playing as an impact player due to not being completely fit, played an inning of 49 runs in 34 balls for RCB chasing the target, in which he hit 6 fours and 1 six.

Most sixes as an opener

Kohli has reached the top in terms of hitting most sixes as an opener in IPL. Playing as an opener, he has hit 185 sixes in the IPL and in this list he has left KL Rahul (184) behind.

this happened for the first time

For the first time in his IPL career, Kohli has been out on a personal score of 49. Kohli has come joint second in terms of being out on a personal score of 49 or 99 runs the maximum number of times in the IPL. Earlier in 2013, he was run out on a personal score of 99 runs in the match against Delhi Capitals.

It is noteworthy that after defeating Lucknow by 5 wickets in this match, RCB has reached the top in the points table.

After being invited to bat first, Lucknow was all out for 146 runs. In which Mitchell Marsh scored 40 runs, Ayush Badoni scored 38 runs and Mukul Chaudhary scored 39 runs.

For RCB, Rasikh Salam Dar took 3 wickets, Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 3 wickets, Krunal Pandya took 2 wickets and Josh Hazlewood took 1 wicket.

In reply, RCB team won in 15.1 overs.

Apart from Kohli, captain Rajat Patidar contributed 27 runs and Jitesh Sharma contributed 23 runs.
