Why was there no fourth umpire in the RCB vs MI match? These rules and regulations changed in 24 hours

IPL 2026 Why a different decision for the same mistake that happened in a different venue, in a different match? Why did the rules and regulations change in 24 hours? Was there no fourth umpire in the RCB vs MI match? If so, then why was the decision not seen in the match played 24 hours ago between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals? When in the CSK vs DC match, the fourth umpire can call the batsman's change of gloves between the overs wrong, then why did he not do the same in the match between Mumbai and Bengaluru? Why didn't he stop the batsman from doing the same in this match like the last match?

The fourth umpire had refused to change gloves for Steves in Chennai.

In the CSK vs DC match in Chennai, Tristan Stubbs was stopped by the fourth umpire from changing his gloves. This incident happened in the 19th over of Delhi's innings.

Then due to sweat in his palm, Staves's gloves were slipping, due to which he was not able to grip the bat. In such a situation, he wanted to change it during the 19th over but the fourth umpire refused. Delhi coach and player sitting in the dugout, Nitish Rana, had a heated argument with the umpire regarding that.

Hardik Pandya changed gloves in Mumbai, did the fourth umpire not see?

Now the question is that when Delhi players can be stopped from changing gloves in the middle of the over, then why not Mumbai Indians? Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya was seen changing gloves in the middle of the over in the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

But, he did not receive any instructions from the fourth umpire. In such a situation, the question is that if there is a rule not to change gloves in the middle of an over, then why different decisions for the same rule violation?

What do the rules of cricket say?

According to the rules of cricket, gloves cannot be changed during an ongoing over. Players often remove gloves due to sweat and wear them again or change gloves. But, this is done after the over is over and not in the middle of the over. It can be changed only in the event of a glove getting torn during an ongoing over, and that too with the permission of the fourth umpire.

If they feel that it is necessary to change the gloves then they can be changed.
