Former all-rounder Irfan Pathan, has expressed concerns about Yashasvi Jaiswal’s performance in the Indian Premier League, stating that the Indian squad may need to reconsider their starting lineup for the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 due to his poor run.

Jaiswal’s dismal performances were brought to light as the Rajasthan Royals lost fourth match in a row, with the opener scoring just four runs against Punjab Kings.

As stated by Pathan on Star Sports, Jaiswal’s lackluster performance may have an effect on India’s starting lineup in the Twenty20 World Cup.

“It’s a major cause for worry as I think Yashasvi Jaiswal should open in the World Cup. . Consequently, the opposition won’t start a left-arm spinner. If he is in form, they will hesitate just a little bit. But given his form, the management will reconsider,” stated Pathan.

He also hinted the potential change that India would make, considering the possibility of Rohit Sharma opening with the in-form Virat Kohli.

“The squad will could choose Virat Kohli as Rohit’s opening partner, instead of the inexperienced Yashasvi Jaiswal. But it is important that he must regain his form,” Pathan continued.

Even after smashing a century, Jaiswal has amassed 348 runs at an average of 29.00 in 13 innings in the IPL 2024. However, in 13 innings as an opener for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Kohli has amassed 661 runs at a stellar average of 66.10.

Pathan saw a bright side as the Rajasthan Royals’ playoff qualification has given Jaiswal more chances. Still, he emphasized how important Jaiswal’s form was to the RR’s overall performance, especially with the departure of Jos Buttler.

“Royals have qualified, which is wonderful news for him because it means he will have more opportunities if they place in the top two. With that in mind, Yashasvi has certain advantages, but the Rajasthan Royals will also have a lot of problems with this form,” he stated.

“Also with Jos Buttler gone, the responsibility on Yashasvi’s shoulders have increased. He is the batter at the top for them,” he further added.
