Despite CSK’s first win, Gaikwad lost lakhs, BCCI fined him

Chennai Super Kings registered their first win in IPL 2026 by defeating Delhi Capitals by 23 runs, but after this win, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad had to face a big shock. BCCI has fined him Rs 12 lakh for maintaining slow over rate.

Batting first in the match, Chennai scored 212 runs. Sanju Samson played a brilliant inning of 115 not out in 56 balls and won the Player of the Match award. Ayush Mhatre scored 39 runs in 36 balls, but despite this excellent innings, captain Gaikwad was fined.

BCCI statement
BCCI said in its statement that the penalty was imposed on CSK because the team played at a slow over-rate against Delhi. This was the team’s first offense in this edition, so only captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has been fined Rs 12 lakh.

Gaikwad gave credit to the bowlers
After this victory, Ruturaj Gaikwad expressed happiness and said that despite the slow pitch, scoring 200-210 runs is a good sign. He praised the batting of Sanju Samson and Ayush Mhatre and said that today was the day for the bowlers.

Jamie Overton performed brilliantly, taking 4 important wickets for only 18 runs in 4 overs.

Delhi Capitals had started well and had scored 61 runs in 5 overs, but after that the team lagged behind due to continuous fall of wickets and in the end they had to face defeat.
