Indian Football Team Captain Sunil Chhetri Announced His Retirement: Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri has announced his retirement from international football. He will retire from international football after the FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Kuwait in Kolkata on June 6. Sunil Chhetri (39) will say goodbye to his two decade long illustrious football career.
The Indian captain announced his retirement by sharing a video on social media. “The match against Kuwait will be the last one,” he said. India are currently second in Group 'A' behind leaders Qatar with four points.

Chhetri played his 150th match for India against Afghanistan in Guwahati in March. He also scored a goal in that match. However, India lost that match 1–2. Chhetri started his career in 2005. So far he has scored 94 goals for the country.
BCCI responded
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has tweeted about Sunil Chhetri's decision to retire from international football. “Your career has been nothing short of extraordinary and you have been a phenomenal icon for Indian football and Indian sports,” the board wrote.
