On Thursday night at the Eden Gardens, Choudhary scored 54 off 27 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders to lead Lucknow Super Giants to a hard-fought win. His inspiration? Mahendra Singh Dhoni. evidence? Helicopter shot.
In the press conference after the victory, Choudhary said, ‘I have practiced that shot since childhood. He mentioned the shot he used to hit a six off Vaibhav Arora in the 17th over. I always liked him, and the way Dhoni [एक पारी] Used to finish. He also used to hit sixes on yorkers. Even if you hit a six on that kind of ball, the bowler thinks of doing something different.
With 54 runs needed from 24 balls, and LSG with seven wickets down, Choudhary had only the tail players to support him. Despite scoring just one run from his first 5 balls, Choudhary scored 53 runs from the next 22 balls. This included seven sixes and only 2 fours.
Regarding his ability to hit sixes, he said, ‘My body is a bit strong, and it has come naturally to me. I also practice hitting 100-150 sixes every day, so if you keep doing this, the bat speed increases. I have been practicing a lot for the last five-six months, so it has come into my game.
Chaudhary showed his talent in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025-26. He scored 62* runs with the help of seven sixes in just 26 balls for Rajasthan against Delhi, which helped his team win while chasing the target of 176 runs. He recalled that he had won that match by hitting a six off his LSG teammate Ayush Badoni. Choudhary finished that competition with 173 runs at an average of 57.66 and strike rate of 198.85.
This was enough for LSG to spend INR 2.6 crore on him and for his LSG coach Justin Langer to say that he could make Choudhary into India’s most feared No. 6 or No. 7 batsman in four months.
Chaudhary said about the motivation he got from Langer’s words, ‘When a big coach like him says something like that about you, I am sure he has seen something in you. He showed faith in me, so now it was my time to repay him. During practice, he spends just 10-15 minutes with me every day. Whatever he taught me proved helpful. So when they trusted me, I just did my job.
Speaking to the host broadcaster after Choudhary led LSG to a come-from-behind win, Langer said he was confident Choudhary can reach even greater heights. Langer said, ‘He is very young, and he has that sparkle in his eyes. He is hungry. You know when you first come in, you work very hard, and It will be a big moment in his life and his career.
