Delhi Capitals assistant coach Pravin Amre spoke on Prithvi Shaw’s omission from the starting XI, stating that any player will be benched if he is not performing well. Shaw, who participated in eight games, amassed 198 runs at a strike rate of 163.63 and an average of 24.75. Even though he performed better in the IPL 2024, but was unable to reach his peak.

Last month, A Mumbai court ordered police to look into molestation claims against Shaw from the previous year.

“Shaw is one of our retained players, and as you can see, he was benched for the last four (of five) games. However, this is the Indian Premier League. if you are out of form, you cannot maintain your place. In the end, the squad is under so much pressure to win every game, thus every game matters,” said Amre.

“And we had carried it out. We won the games without selecting him. I think was Abishek made the most of the chances,” he continued.

Shaw didn’t feature in the first two IPL 2024 games, but quickly hit 43 off 27 deliveries in his first game against the reigning champion Chennai Super Kings. Against the Mumbai Indians, he scored 66 from 40 balls, but after that, his form declined.

Shaw was replaced by Porel, who in 12 innings, hit 327 runs at a strike rate of 159.51. His 92-run stand with Shai Hope for the second wicket played a part in Delhi’s win against Lucknow Super Giants. He scorched 58 off 33 deliveries on Tuesday.

“Porel was fantastic. Even after Jake (Fraser-McGurk) was out in the opening over, we were still able to score 73 runs during the powerplay. That, in my opinion, is so important, and Shai Hope and Porel deserve praise for their partnership,” Amre further stated.

With just seven victories in 14 games, DC are out of the playoff race.
