The CSK captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, has admitted his failure after Chennai Super Kings’ 43-run defeat in the IPL 2026 game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
RCB put up a massive total on the scoreboard and successfully defended the total, handing a humiliating defeat to Super Kings.
CSK was shocked during the 250 chase on Sunday clash, after collapsing to 30 for 3. The entire top order, comprising Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson, and Ayush Mhatre, has failed early, which has been a major concern.
However, Sarfaraz Khan, Prashant Veer and Jamie Overton showed fighting spirit during the game. After the match he highlighted the efforts of Sarfaraz Khan, Prashant Veer and Jamie Overton.
Speaking on the post match conference, Ruturaj Gaikwad said, “Well, even I was suprised, to be honest, Great fight by Sarfaraz, Prashant Veer, Jamie Overton, even to some extent Shivam Dube.”
“So I think, maybe I would have, contributed more top of the order, you never know, we would have chased it down. So definitely it’s on me today.”
Speaking about the phase, Gaikwad said, “We would have had, as you rightly said, if we would have taken early chance of Virat Kohli, I think that was, I mean, maybe we would have had momentum to ourselves.
But I think, we still had the game in our hands till the 13th, 14th over, and that’s when the momentum really shifted.”Royal Challengers Bengaluru shifted to aggressive mode when Tim David tore into CSK attack.
Ruturaj Gaikwad pointed out that they almost had an opportunity to dismiss him earlier.‘Well, you’re right, KP, I think, Anshul almost got a wicket of him. Unfortunate to be illegal delivery, but yeah, after that he just smacked all around the park and as your rightly said, hats off to him.”
With Ruturaj Gaikwad-led CSK suffered seven consecutive loss, there is huge questions over captaincy and management.
Chennai Super Kings has suffered three straight wins in the ongoing season and sinked to the bottom of the IPL 2026 points table. CSK will take on Delhi Capitals on April 11 at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
