Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) registered their first win of the Indian Premier League 2026 with a hard-fought victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday, April 5, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Coming into the contest after a defeat against Delhi Capitals (DC), LSG bounced back strongly to open their account this season.

Captain Rishabh Pantled from the front, keeping his composure in the final moments and striking the winning runs. In the stands, team owner Sanjiv Goenka looked visibly relieved as his franchise sealed their first victory of the campaign.

The win also helped ease recent speculation about tension within the camp after Goenka was seen having an animated discussion with Pant following their loss to DC. The franchise had earlier dismissed such concerns, and this result further reinforced a sense of unity.

Earlier in the match, Batting first, SRH posted 156/9 in their 20 overs after a poor start that saw their top order collapse cheaply.

However, Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy staged a strong recovery, adding 116 runs for the fifth wicket in just 63 balls. Klaasen scored 62 off 41 balls, including five fours and two sixes, while Reddy contributed 56 off 33 balls, striking three boundaries and five sixes.

For LSG, Mohammed Shami impressed with outstanding figures of 2/9, while Prince Yadav picked up 2/34 and Avesh Khan claimed 2/36.

In reply, LSG chased down the target with one ball to spare. Aiden Markram played a crucial knock of 45 off 27 balls, while skipper Rishabh Pant held his nerve to guide the team home with an unbeaten 68 off 50 balls, including nine fours.

From SRH’s bowling unit, Harsh Dubey stood out with figures of 2/18, and two key run-outs kept the hosts in the contest till the end. Despite their efforts, LSG managed to find their rhythm and secured their first win of the season.
