Over many years the rumors of former Pakistani cricket player Shoaib Akhtar reportedly threatening to ‘kidnap’ Bollywood actress Sonali Bendre if she turned down his marriage proposal have been circulating. Sonali has now reacted to the stories.
The actor was asked about Shoaib’s remark during a podcast interview with Shubhankar Mishra. She has been promoting her most recent programme, The Broken News season 2. Additionally, Shubhankar revealed to her that the cricketer had previously admitted to having a major crush on her.
Bendre was shocked and said, “Did he really say that? Though I’m not sure if this is accurate. Even back then, fake news existed!” she continued.
When host revealed the clip of Shoaib claiming to kidnap her, Bendre stated, “Thank God for that, my career is because of the audience loving me, even though I’m not sure if he really said it.”
In 2019, Shoaib made it clear that he never made any remarks against Sonali. Shoaib had declared in a video that he intended to end to the rumors ‘once and for all’.
The rumors have been circulating for quite a while. The Pakistani pacer admitted in an interview that he had a huge crush on Sonali. It was also alleged that he wished to marry her and would do anything to convince her to accept his marriage proposal. He made a comment that he would kidnap the actress if she refused to accept his proposal.
“I’ve never met Sonali Bendre. She is a stunning woman, and I have seen her in films, but I haven’t been a fan. Yes, I became a fan of hers personally after she defeated cancer; that’s when I realized how brave she was. To be honest we had nothing to do with each other,” Akhtar claimed.
