Delhi Capitals (DC) and Mumbai Indians (MI) will resume their rivalry on the big stage when the two sides face off against each other in Match 8 of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season at the Aru Jaitley Stadium on Saturday, April 4. Both sides come into the game after opening their respective campaigns with victories.
DC played Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), where they secured an emphatic six-wicket victory whilst chasing 142. They were set up brilliantly by their bowlers, with T. Natarajan and Lungi Ngidi taking three wickets each, and Kuldeep Yadav ending up with two scalps to his name. The Axar Patel-led side chased down the total with 17 balls to spare, thanks to Sameer Rizvi's unbeaten 70 off just 47 balls.
MI, meanwhile, won their opening game of a new IPL season for the first time since 2012, when they defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium. The visitor put a daunting 220 on the board batting first, but MI chased down the total with five balls to spare, mainly down to the opening partnership between Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma. The pair put 148 for the first wicket from just 72 balls to ease the pressure on other batters. Shardul Thakur, however, was the Player of the Match for his three-wicket spell.
Both DC and MIhave veterans of the T20 game, who have been playing the format for multiple years now. The shortest format has arguably become the most common form of the game thanks to the advent of franchise leagues all across the world. With the IPL in its 19th year, there are bound to be players who are close to achieving personal milestones in the tournament or in T20 cricket in general.
