Kolkata Knight Riders slipped to their second consecutive defeat in IPL 2026 as Sunrisers Hyderabad registered a convincing 65 run victory at Eden Gardens. Serious questions are now being raised about KKR’s form early in the season after back-to-back losses, with their batting unit once again failing to deliver in a challenging chase.

Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma give Sunrisers Hyderabad a flying start

Sunrisers Hyderabad posted a strong total of 226 for 8 after being asked to bat first.

Helped by a blazing start from Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, who added 82 runs in quick time and put KKR under immediate pressure.

Travis Head looked in aggressive touch and scored 46 off 21 balls, while Abhishek Sharma matched the tempo with 48 off 21 deliveries. Both batsmen made full use of the conditions and kept the scoreboard moving at a rapid pace.

KKR did manage to break the opening stand when Kartik Tyagi removed Head, and a few quick wickets in the middle overs slowed SRH slightly. However, the momentum remained largely with the visitors throughout the innings.

Heinrich Klaasen anchors the innings

Heinrich Klaasen played a crucial role in stabilizing the innings after SRH lost wickets in clusters. His composed 52 off 35 balls ensured that the scoring rate never dipped too much, even when boundaries became harder to come by.

Klaasen rotated the strike smartly and built an important 82 run partnership with Nitish Kumar Reddy, who contributed 39 off 24 balls. Their stand helped SRH recover from a brief middle order wobble and push the total to a competitive finish.

Despite a few late wickets from Vaibhav Arora and Blessing Muzarabani, SRH had already done enough to set a daunting target.

Angkrish Raghuvanshi shines but Rinku Singh unable to finish chase

Chasing 227, Kolkata Knight Riders never really found control and were bowled out for 161 in just 16 overs. The innings lacked partnerships and consistency from the start.

Finn Allen provided a quick spark with 28 off just 7 balls, but his dismissal stalled the momentum. Cameron Green also failed to contribute again, falling cheaply after a mix up in the middle. The standout performer for KKR was Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who played a brilliant knock of 52 off 29 balls, striking six fours and two sixes.

Raghuvanshi showed good intent and composure, but he did not receive enough support from the other end. Rinku Singh added 35 off 25 balls and tried to keep KKR in the contest, though his dismissal ended any realistic chances of a comeback.

Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers dominate with disciplined effort

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowlers maintained pressure throughout the innings. Jaydev Unadkat led the attack with figures of 3 for 21, while Ehsan Malinga and Nitish Kumar Reddy picked up two wickets each.

Blessing Muzarabani was the most successful bowler, finishing with 4 for 41 and striking at key moments to break partnerships. On the other hand, KKR’s spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine struggled to contain runs and went wicketless.

With this win, Sunrisers Hyderabad returned to winning ways in convincing fashion, while Kolkata Knight Riders will need to regroup quickly after another disappointing performance.
