According to former CSK and India player Ambati Rayudu, many CSK followers are first and foremost MS Dhoni enthusiasts rather than team fans. Rayudu revealed that he found it difficult to accept that in his playing days as people would flock to see MS Dhoni first and the Chennai-based team second.
Rayudu went on to say that while he and Ravindra Jadeja never received appreciation for hitting boundaries or doing well during the matches, the Chennai fans always roared for MS Dhoni. According to Rayudu, Ravindra Jadeja was annoyed by this for years.
“In the past few years, Jadeja and I have seen that the crowd is dead silent even after we smack a boundary or a six. When I say this, I genuinely think that CSK supporters are first and foremost MS Dhoni supporters. Even Jadeja becomes frustrated, but there’s nothing he could do,” claimed Rayudu.
Despite his injury struggles, Dhoni has been striking incredibly well and has made the supporters happy. Dhoni has not yet made any statements regarding his future with the team.
