Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 is still in its initial stages, but Delhi Capitals (DC) have made a strong bid in the race for the playoffs with their spectacular win. By defeating Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 5th match, Delhi not only gained 2 important points but also made a big change in the points table due to Net Run Rate (NRR).

Delhi’s victory left the top teams behind

After this victory, the net run rate of Delhi Capitals became +1.397 and the team reached third place in the points table. Earlier, the net run rate of Mumbai Indians was +0.687 and that of Punjab Kings was +0.509, but Delhi’s impressive win pushed both these teams back. Now Mumbai has come to fourth place and Punjab to fifth place.

Rajasthan and Bengaluru still on top

However, Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore remain in the top-2. Rajasthan’s net run rate is 4.171, while Bengaluru’s is 2.907. After Delhi’s victory, the top-5 teams have equal points, but the ranking has been decided on the basis of net run rate.

On the other hand, the defeat of Lucknow Super Giants has pushed them to eighth place.

Lucknow’s batting is struggling

Batting first in this match, Lucknow Super Giants team was seen struggling completely and could only score 141 runs in 18.4 overs. After the slow start of Rishabh Pant and Aiden Markram, Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran also could not make a big contribution. Abdul Samad and Mitchell Marsh tried to take control, but the team’s score did not increase as expected.

Delhi’s beginning was also not easy

In reply, Delhi Capitals also faced initial setbacks and lost 4 wickets for just 26 runs, but after this Sameer Rizvi turned the match on the basis of his unbeaten inning of 70 runs. His innings played in 47 balls gave confidence to the team and formed an important partnership with Tristan Stubbs for the 5th wicket. Delhi won the match by achieving the target in 17.1 overs.

Sameer Rizvi showed excellent batting

Sameer Rizvi’s innings included 5 fours and 4 sixes, which helped the team win in difficult times. This also proved to be the best innings of his IPL career so far.

On the basis of his innings, Delhi Capitals defeated Lucknow and took the lead in net run rate and strengthened their position in the points table.
