It may have been a night to remember for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, as they started their IPL 2026 campaign with a solid win against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, a few fans in attendance at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday, March 28, had to leave home disappointed with cases of multiple mobile phones being stolen from the venue premises coming to the fore.
As per media reports circulating online, a few fans rushed to the Cubbon Park Police Station after the match, registering their complaints about the mobile phones being stolen. A few citizens also used the official Karnataka Police application to report the incident. Bengaluru Central Division's Deputy Commissioner of Police Akshay Hakay confirmed that more than 30 smartphones have been stolen.
"We are looking into this. We are questioning multiple individuals, including some minors who we believe could be involved. Some have been detained. People must exercise caution in crowded places," Hakay stated, as per NDTV.
Meanwhile, a content creator, Ritu Tiwari, also uploaded a video on her official social media handle, saying that more than 50 smartphones were stolen from the P3 Stand itself, including the one of her husband as well.
"It's my request; please be careful with your phones if you're attending an IPL match, because at least 50 to 60 phones were stolen alone from the P3 stand, including my husband's. My husband realised his phone was missing after the first innings, when he went to bring us some drinking water, and at the same time, there were lots of people complaining about the same," she added.
Last year, the Chinnaswamy Stadium received huge flak from the fans and experts in the aftermath of the stampede incident that took the lives of eleven innocent fans. As a result, reports like stealing of public belongings add to the security concerns despite extra care taken by the authorities to ensure no stampede-like events take place any further at the most iconic cricketing landmark in the city of Bengaluru.
