Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Ajinkya Rahane said that his priority is on improving his T20 cricket performance and not on showing off his talent to anyone. Rahane scored 67 runs in 40 balls in the opening match of IPL 2026 against Mumbai Indians and impressed everyone with his brilliant comeback performance.

Talking to the media after the match, Rahane said, “I am very happy with my current batting form. I did not come to show my talent to anyone.

People see, people speak, I don’t care. In the last two-three years, I have improved my game in the white-ball T20 format and I am focusing on the same in the future as well.”

However, Rahane’s innings went in vain as MI’s brilliant half-centuries from Ryan Rickleton and Rohit Sharma helped the team win by six wickets against KKR.

KKR scored 220 runs in 20 overs with the help of half-centuries from Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Rinku Singh, but MI’s Jasprit Bumrah restricted KKR’s lead by giving just 19 runs in the death overs. Rahane said, “We were thinking 220 runs was a good score and could have gone to 235-240.

But two overs from Bumrah changed the game. That’s why he is such a great bowler.”

Rahane made it clear that his focus is on improving his individual performance and he will not be influenced by any external criticism.
