Balaghat (Madhya Pradesh). Soul-shattering news has come to light from Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh. Here on Baihar-Malajkhand road late Saturday night, a speeding Alto car lost control and went down the road and overturned. According to eyewitnesses, a massive fire broke out as soon as the car overturned. The fire was so severe that the people in the car did not even get a chance to get out and three members of the same family, including a 3-year-old innocent child, were burnt alive inside.
According to the information received, car driver Pritam Kelkar runs a welding shop in Pavani. He had gone to Pondi with his wife and child three days ago. On Saturday night he was returning back to Pavani with his parents and children. As soon as his car reached near Kewalari intersection, it suddenly went out of control and overturned. In the blink of an eye the entire car was engulfed in flames. The passers-by showed courage and somehow pulled out 8-year-old girl Purvi, driver Pritam (30) and her mother Nanabai (60), who were seriously burnt, by breaking the glass of the car.
Baihar police station in-charge Jayant Marskole said that as soon as information about the accident was received on dial 112, the police team reached the spot. However, by then the fire had engulfed the entire car. In this heart-wrenching incident, Pritam’s father Nagarchi Kelkar (65), wife Savita Kelkar (28) and 3-year-old son Abhi Kelkar burnt to death inside the car. The scene was so horrifying that after the fire was extinguished, the remains of the dead had to be taken out in pieces.
In the preliminary investigation of the police, it is suspected that the accident may have happened due to the driver dozing off. The car went straight down the road after taking a turn, causing it to overturn and catch fire immediately, possibly due to a short circuit or fuel leak. At present, the injured are undergoing treatment in the hospital and the police is conducting a detailed investigation of the case.
This tragic accident has once again exposed the dangers of driving at night. The police administration has appealed to the drivers that if they feel tired or sleepy during a long distance journey, they should stop the vehicle and take rest.
