Delhi: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) veteran wicketkeeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni will not be a part of the team in the initial matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The franchise has officially informed that he is currently away from the field due to injury and will not be available for some time.
Chennai Super Kings clarified in its statement that Dhoni is suffering from a calf muscle strain.
Due to this problem, he is going through the rehabilitation process and it will not be possible for him to play for the first two weeks. The team management is constantly keeping an eye on his fitness.Chennai’s first match in IPL 2026 is to be played against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on 30 March. After this, the team will face Punjab Kings (PBKS) on 3 April, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on 5 April and Delhi Capitals (DC) on 11 April.
In such a situation, Dhoni cannot be seen in these four matches.After these matches, Chennai’s next match is against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on 14 April. If his fitness does not improve on time, he may remain out of this match also. However, it is expected that he can make a comeback in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on 18 April.
Regarding 44-year-old Dhoni, it is believed that this could be his last IPL season. He has led Chennai Super Kings to the title five times under his captaincy and retired from international cricket in 2020.
