IPL 2026: MS Dhoni's injury changed history, such a match will be held for the first time after 253 matches

For the last 2-3 seasons of IPL, this question has been continuously asked whether MS Dhoni will take the field this time or not? Every time Dhoni answered this by coming on the field wearing the yellow jersey of Chennai Super Kings. This question was raised even before the IPL 2026 season and once again Dhoni was ready to play.

But before he could be seen in the famous jersey of CSK, such news came which hardly anyone would have expected. Even before the start of the season, Dhoni was out for 2 weeks due to injury. Due to this, something is going to happen which has never happened before in the 16 year history of CSK in IPL.

Dhoni out for 2 weeks

Chennai Super Kings' first match in the IPL season starting from March 28 is against Rajasthan Royals on March 30. But in this match, former Chennai captain and fan's favorite Dhoni will not be able to play. Not only this match, but Dhoni will not be able to return to the team at least till the first 3 matches of the season.

In fact, on Saturday itself, CSK told that due to calf injury, Dhoni may remain out of the field for 2 weeks, due to which they will have to wait to see him.

The streak of 16 years and 253 matches was broken

Now due to Dhoni's injury the fans have to face disappointment but with this something is going to happen which has never happened before in IPL. In fact, when Chennai team takes the field against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati, it will be the first time in the history of the franchise that neither Dhoni or Suresh Raina will be there in CSK's playing-11.

This had never happened before in the last 16 seasons.

Raina was a part of CSK till 2021 and during this period, in the few matches in which Dhoni could not play, Raina was the captain of the team. After Raina's departure, Dhoni played every match of CSK in the last 4 seasons. Overall, CSK has played 253 matches in the last 16 seasons and in each of these matches, either Dhoni or Raina was a part of the team. In this way, this is like a sign of coming change for the 5-time champion team.
