India are one of the favourites for the ICC T20 World 2024. The Men in Blue will travel to the West Indies and USA to end their title drought in the ICC tournament. The sub-continent team won the last big title in 2013 while the success in the T20 World Cup came in 2007.
Ahead of the global tournament, a report has claimed that captain Rohit Sharma and the chief selector Ajit Agarkar were against the inclusion of Hardik Pandya in the World Cup squad. However, Hardik managed to get into the 15-member unit.
Hardik was India’s T20I captain and enjoyed success against strong opponents. He was the front-runner to lead the team in the T20 World Cup before the star performer was ruled out for a long time due to an injury. His impressive track record is one of the reasons behind him getting a nod for the upcoming ICC event.
Hardik is likely to replace Rohit as captain after the World Cup in June.
Dainik Jagran’s report also claimed that Indian players in the Mumbai Indians’camp listen to Rohit. On the other hand, the overseas stars follow Pandya’s instructions.
MI struggled throughout the season under Hardik’s leadership and became the first franchise to be eliminated from the playoff race. However, Hardik will lead India in one-day internationals after Rohit quits the format.
