Delhi: A new controversy has arisen in Karnataka politics regarding Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 tickets. Hungund MLA Vijayanand Kashapanwar has intensified the debate by raising the demand for special ticket arrangement for MLAs. He says that it is not appropriate for the public representatives to stand in the queue like the common people, because they come in the “VIP” category.

Demand for special quota for MLAs

Kashapanwar has demanded that every MLA be given at least five IPL tickets and special arrangements should be made for their seating. His argument is that it is necessary to maintain the respect of the public representatives of the state and for this the Cricket Association should take initiative.

Serious allegations made against KSCA

The MLA alleged that the Karnataka State Cricket Association was neither providing tickets to the MLAs nor making any arrangements for their families. He also expressed the fear of black marketing in online ticket sales, due to which both the common audience and public representatives are facing problems.

Controversy increased before IPL match

This issue has become more heated when there is a match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on March 28 under the Indian Premier League. The demand for tickets for this match is already high, hence the special demand of the MLAs has further increased the controversy.

Opposition and Speaker’s response

On this issue, opposition leader R. Ashoka has also raised questions on the functioning of the cricket association. He says that the government had provided land to KSCA at concessional rates, yet high prices are being charged from the general public. Meanwhile, Assembly Speaker U.T. Khadar has suggested that the government should intervene in this matter and find a solution. He said that there should be a provision of at least four tickets for the MLAs, so that they can watch the match with their families.

Increased stir in political circles

This controversy over IPL tickets has sparked a new debate in the politics of the state. On one hand the public representatives are demanding special rights, while on the other hand this issue seems to be linked to the rights and transparency of the general public. This matter may escalate further in the coming days.
