Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill said that he has nothing to prove to anyone in the Indian Premier League 2026. He was left out of India’s T20 World Cup 2026 squad after failing to score heavily. Gill highlighted his consistency with the bat in the cash-rich league, saying he will continue to amass runs and contribute to his franchise’s push for the title.
Speaking to the press on Thursday, 26 March in Ahmedabad, Gill opined on his performance in the upcoming season of the tournament.
“I don’t have anything to prove to anyone. I have scored the most runs if you look at the past three or four seasons. I don’t have anything to prove this season.
“Gujarat Titans have done well as a team, and I have given my best as a batter. I don’t have to prove my worth. I just need to continue doing what I have been doing over the years. We are confident of winning the trophy,” he said.
Gill is Team India’s Test and ODI captain, and the BCCI thought of making him the country’s next all-format skipper.
He was named vice-captain in last year’s Asia Cup, which marked his return to the shortest format after a year. Gill was given a chance to open the innings along with Abhishek Sharma, with the head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Suryakumar Yadav demoting Sanju Samson.
However, their experiment backfired after Gill struggled to get going. He amassed 291 runs from 15 T20I matches in 2025 at a strike rate of 137.26. Gill was dropped, and India went on to win the T20 World Cup 2026, with Samson getting the Player of the Tournament award.
In IPL 2025, he accumulated 650 runs in 15 matches at a strike rate of 155.87.
