Shubman Gill, IPL 2026: Shubman Gill, India's ODI and Test captain and captain of Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026, said many important things while talking to the media. Gill also gave a befitting reply to the critics who doubted his ability. Not only this, this player also gave a big statement on being out of T20 World Cup 2026 and the impact rule of BCCI. Shubhman Gill said that even though he has been dropped from the T20 World Cup 2026, he does not need to prove anything in the IPL. Let us tell you that Gill was the vice-captain of India in the T20 format but after performing poorly in the top order, he was dropped from the team and then Sanju Samson played in his place. Sanju Samson performed brilliantly and made India win the T20 World Cup and became the player of the tournament.
Shubman Gill was asked whether he would prove anything in the IPL if he was not included in the T20 World Cup team. On this, Gill said, 'Absolutely not sir, if you look at my three-four seasons, I have the most runs in the IPL, so I don't think I need to prove anything this season. I have been playing for this team for four years and I think we have performed well as a team, I think I have performed well as a batsman as well. So I don't feel that I need to prove my worth to anyone. Gill has really performed amazingly in IPL. This player had scored 650 runs in the last season, 426 runs in the year before that and 890 runs in 2023.
Shubhman Gill further said that he will do the same work which he has been doing for the last four years. He said, 'As a team, we have to perform well continuously and we are doing that. If we continue to do this then we will win the IPL trophy once again.
Shubman Gill criticized the impact player rule in IPL. He even said that this rule eliminates skill from the game. Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Akshar Patel have also given statements against this rule. Gill said, 'Personally I don't think there is a need for an impact player. I believe that cricket is generally a game of 11 players and adding an extra batsman on the wickets on which we play takes skill out of the game.
Gill further said, 'It is necessary to have a special kind of skill in this game. Even when you have a fixed number of batsmen and some of your batsmen are out, good skills will be required to take your team to a good score to move the scoreboard forward. But with the arrival of that one extra player, the game is becoming one-sided and there is a lack of skill. I think chasing 160 to 180 runs on a difficult pitch is more exciting than chasing 220 runs on a flat wicket. Apart from Gill, other big players have also opposed this rule, it is possible that the Impact Player rule will end from IPL 2028.
