Sanjiv Goenka, who is the owner of IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), has dismissed reports of Rishabh Pant’s sacking as captain ahead of the Indian Premier League 2026 season. He wished the 28-year-old skipper good luck for the 19th season. Pant is under pressure after his below-par performance in the previous season of the league, despite being bought for INR 27 crore in the mega auction. There were speculations of his removal before the start of the new edition.

However, Goenka refuted all such stories and lauded the wicket-keeper batter for his commitment.

“Heading into the season, I had read the speculations around @RishabhPant17’s captaincy and smiled. We’ve spent enough time together to know his character and commitment. Have a great season, Cap!” Goenka wrote in a post on X on Thursday.

Earlier, a similar story was posted during IPL 2025, when Pant gave a befitting reply to the user. He mentioned that Pant might get dropped for the IPL 2026 season because the owners were satisfied with his price tag. The southpaw suggested that the user verify the claims before spreading fake narratives on social media.

“I understand fake news gives more traction to content, but let’s not build everything around it. A little sense and credible news will help more, rather than making fake news with an agenda. Thanks, have a good day. Let’s be responsible and sensible about what we put out on social media,” he had written on X.

Pant was a part of 13 matches last season and scored just 269 runs at an average of 24.45. He was one of the reasons behind LSG’s failure, and even his captaincy was questioned by many after he scolded his teammates during matches. Pant’s performance will be monitored when LSG start their IPL 2026 campaign against Delhi Capitals at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on April 1.
