The IPL 2024 match between Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders was called off due to persistent rain. Gujarat’s chances of making it to the playoffs are over, while Kolkata are sure of finishing among the top two teams.
The toss couldn’t take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium due to bad weather conditions and both teams were given one point each, respectively.
KKR have already qualified for the playoffs after winning 9 games in the 17th season. They have been dominating in all the departments of the game, with Phil Salt and Sunil Narine ruling the batting charts for the franchise.
Narine has been magnificent in the bowling department as well. Apart from him, Varun Chakravarthy, Andre Russell and Harshit Rana have contributed with the ball.
On the other hand, Gujarat never looked strong. The trade of Hardik Pandya to Mumbai Indians and season ending injury to Mohammed Shami proved costly for the 2022 champions. Although Shubman Gill played a few handy knocks as a captain, his bowling and fielding blunders kept the Titans on the backfoot.
The descision to appoint him as the franchise’s new skipper back-fired. Rashid Khan, who was Hardik’s deputy in the previous two seasons, was a better choice to lead Gujarat but the management preferred a player with no captaincy experience over him.
