Lucknow: Many veteran players have criticized the impact player rule of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Even Indian team captain Rohit Sharma is not in favor of this rule and wants to end it. However, former Indian opener and famous commentator Aakash Chopra has spoken in favor of this rule and has said that it should not be removed. Instead, Chopra has talked about adding a new rule. Let us tell you that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had brought the rule of Impact Player in the year 2023.

Due to the new rule, all the teams get the option of an additional batsman or bowler, due to which the teams are also scoring big scores. Many veteran players have criticized this rule and they say that because of this rule the importance of the all-rounder will reduce. Not only this, because of this rule India will not be able to get new all-rounder players. However, during a conversation with Geo Cinema, Chopra gave a different opinion.

He said, “Impact rule should not be removed from IPL because it gives opportunity to young Indian players. This rule should not be removed, if you want, you can increase the quota of overs of a bowler. Currently a bowler bowls only 4 overs but if you want to increase it then you can make it 6 overs. You give Jasprit Bumrah six overs to bowl and ask him to hit the batsmen. I feel that the impact player rule should not be removed but what I said should be done in its place.”

Rohit Sharma had criticized this rule

Let us tell you that some time ago, Indian team captain Rohit Sharma had criticized it while talking on Club Parry Fire YouTube channel. He had said that “Impact player rule should be abolished from IPL. Only 11 players play in cricket but because of this rule 12 players are seen playing. Apart from this, you play with 12 players in IPL but in international cricket you get a chance to play with 11 players only. It is because of this rule that players like Shivam Dubey and Washington Sundar are not bowling.
