IPL 2026 captain's meet: IPL 2026 is starting from March 28 and before that a meeting of the captains of all the 10 teams was organized. During this meeting some rules of IPL were discussed. Some captains are particularly unhappy with one rule of the IPL and raised questions on it in this meeting. Most of the IPL captains registered their objection to the Impact Player rule, regarding which people have different opinions since its implementation in 2023. BCCI has extended this rule till 2027 but the debate on it is still going on.
The Impact Player Rule was discussed in the meeting of captains of all 10 IPL teams held in Mumbai. An IPL source informed that most of the captains expressed their views on the impact player rule and expressed their objection to it. It was told in the meeting that this rule is reviewed only after the year 2027, hence it will continue in this season and next season.
Delhi Capitals captain Akshar Patel has openly opposed this rule. Rohit Sharma has also raised his voice against this rule. Akshar had said while talking to the media that he does not like this rule because it eliminates the role of all-rounders. Rohit had said in 2024 that he does not agree with the idea of impact player because it could lead to a shortage of all-rounders in Indian cricket. Hardik Pandya had also given a statement against this and said that due to the impact player rule, it has become difficult to select an all-rounder in the team. Many foreign players have also spoken against this rule.
In the IPL Captain's Meet, a captain proposed changing the ball even after 10 overs of the first innings but it did not get much support. There is usually more dew in the second innings, so the existing rule will remain in force. In this meeting, the captains also received information about the guidelines regarding practice from the IPL officials. According to the new rules of BCCI, no practice of any kind will be allowed on match days and if a team ends its practice early, then the other team will not be allowed to use the wickets for their practice.
