In the IPL, batsmen will no longer be allowed to hit shots toward the LED screens—and this has been clearly stated by the BCCI. So does this mean batsmen will now play more carefully? Let’s understand.

To make the IPL run more effectively, the BCCI has introduced new guidelines that include several important rules for players and broadcasters.

One of these rules says that players should not hit balls toward LED boards—but this applies during practice sessions, not during matches. According to the BCCI, even though there are hitting nets available, players still hit balls toward LED boards, which is not acceptable.

Another rule states that players cannot wear floppy hats or sleeveless T-shirts during match presentations. If this happens once, there will be a warning; a second violation could result in a fine.

Next, on match days, everyone entering the PMOA (Players and Match Officials Area) must carry their accreditation card.

Forgetting it once will result in a warning, and a second time will lead to a fine for the team.

Another rule says that players and support staff should not sit in front of LED boards. Separate seating will be arranged for substitute players.

An important rule is that players who have won the Purple Cap or Orange Cap must wear it. If they don’t, they must wear it for at least the first two overs so it can be shown on TV.

On match days, only 12 accredited support staff members—including doctors—are allowed with the team.

Finally, if any player wants to change their jersey number, the team must inform the BCCI at least 24 hours in advance.

The BCCI wants all these rules to be followed smoothly so that the IPL can be conducted in a more organized and efficient manner.
