Before IPL 2026, Punjab Kings (PBKS) young all-rounder Rasuryansh Shedge has revealed a special conversation with veteran cricketer MS Dhoni. He told that playing the role of ‘finisher’ is not easy and there are more failures in it, hence there is no need to think too much.
Suryansh Shedge told ESPNcricinfo that during the last IPL season, he had discussed this role with Dhoni. Dhoni explained to him that the finisher gets very few opportunities and sometimes the results do not go in his favour, hence every ball should be taken as a new opportunity.
The 23-year-old player said that his focus is only on improving his game. “I only have my preparation in my hands, it is not in my control when I will get the opportunity,” he said.
Shedge’s performance has not been very special of late. He got limited opportunities in IPL and could not score much runs in domestic cricket also. However, in the 2024-25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he performed brilliantly and played an important role in Mumbai winning the title.
Regarding T20 cricket, he said that even though it is a short format, it is a “battle of every ball”. If the player thinks of winning every ball then pressure can be created on the team.
PBKS will have Suryansh Shedge playing under captain Shreyas Iyer and working with coach Ricky Ponting. He said that working with Ponting is like a “blessing” for him and he gets to learn a lot from him.
Punjab Kings will start their IPL campaign from March 31 against Gujarat Titans, where the team will look to avenge the previous defeat.
