ICC ODI World Cup 2027 It is still next year but his days and time will be spent in preparations. Now the question is where will the ODI World Cup be held next year? Under what format will it be played and between how many teams? What will be the rules of ODI World Cup 2027? A total of 14 teams will get entry in next year's ODI World Cup, but the methods of getting tickets for the tournament will be different.
ODI World Cup 2027 is to be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia next year. Being hosts, South Africa and Zimbabwe will get direct entry into the tournament. Whereas its third host Namibia will have to get the ticket for the tournament through qualification. 8 teams will be selected for the tournament on the basis of their ICC ranking. These 8 will be the teams which will be in the top 8 in the ICC rankings by 31 March 2027. The remaining 4 teams will be selected through a qualifying tournament to be played between 10 teams.
Next year's ODI World Cup will be played in Super Six format. After 14 teams get tickets for the tournament, they will be divided into two groups of A and B. All the teams in every group will play matches against each other. Top-3 teams from both groups will qualify for Super Six. The journey of two teams will come to an end in the Super Six and the top four teams will proceed to the semi-finals.
Talking about the rules related to ICC ODI World Cup 2027, there are no major changes in them. The same rules will be followed here also, which were used in the 2023 ODI World Cup. The three new rules that ICC had implemented during the 2023 ODI World Cup will also be seen in the 2027 World Cup. Those 3 rules of ICC are as follows:
1. Even in the ODI World Cup 2027, if the match is tied, the winner will be decided on the basis of Super Over. These rules were implemented by the ICC during the 2023 ODI World Cup after the controversy that arose in the final of the 2019 ODI World Cup. In the 2019 ODI World Cup, when the match was tied, England was declared the winner against New Zealand on the basis of fours, after which a controversy arose.
2. Soft signal rule will not be there even in the 2027 ODI World Cup. Under this rule, the on-field umpires had to give their decision without asking the third umpire, due to which in close matches the third umpire's decision sometimes went in favor of the on-field umpire. But, now the decision of the on-field umpire will be considered final only when the third umpire is unable to call out or not out.
3. One of the ICC rules for the ODI World Cup is related to the boundary of the stadium. The boundary will not be less than 70 meters. All these rules were seen for the first time in the 2023 ODI World Cup and now they will also be seen in the 2027 ODI World Cup.
