Former Aussie pacer Brett Lee was amazed by Rajat Patidar’s cover drive during his innings against DC and compared it to Virat Kohli’s. Patidar’s performance against Delhi Capitals was solid as he scored his fifth fifty of the season to save the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. His cover drive off the bowling of Mukesh Kumar left the commentators in astonishment in the game’s fifth over.

Following RCB’s 47-run victory on Sunday, Lee stated that viewers might mistakenly believe that Virat Kohli had struck the shot. Lee said the shot was as good as it gets and hopes that Patidar can maintain his current form.

“Also, if you were to turn on your device right now, you would assume that is Kohli,” he commented.

“It’s his fifth half century this season; we know he has played Tests, but he needed some time to find his groove. However, what’s really amazing is that he played that cover drive, I mean, that’s about as good as it gets. It’s pleasing to see that he has found his form. Well, maybe it can go on,” Lee continued.

Coming into the IPL 2024 season after an underwhelming India vs. England Test series, Patidar had a rocky start to the season. The RCB were struggling with Glenn Maxwell’s bad form, so the MP hitter had to step in.

Assuming the role of Maxwell, Patidar has made a lot of progress this season, attacking the spinners from the front and hitting 20 sixes so far. After his 52 against DC, Patidar has amassed 320 runs at a strike rate of over 179 from 13 games in the ongoing IPL season.

Patidar will be crucial to RCB’s hopes of qualifying for the playoffs when they play CSK in Bengaluru on May 18 in their final league match of IPL 2024.
