Sunrisers Hyderabad have another injury problem to deal with ahead of PL 2026. As per EESPNcricinfo, Jack Edwards, the 25-year-old Australian seam bowling all-rounder, has been ruled out of the entire season with a foot injury.

Edwards was bought by SRH for Rs 3 crore at the Abu Dhabi mini auction and would have made his IPL debut this season.

SRH will open their campaign against defending champions RCB at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on March 28 and the details of what this means for the franchise are worth going through properly.

Who Jack Edwards is and what SRH lose without him

As per EESPNcricinfo, the nature and magnitude of the injury are not fully known, but Edwards has been ruled out for the entire tournament.

He had a strong BBL 2025-26 season, taking 19 wickets and scoring 133 runs in 13 games for Sydney Sixers and was spotted by SRH scouts after an impressive showing for Australia A on their tour of India last year.

Jack Edwards made his international debut in a T20I against Pakistan in Perth four days after the Sixers lost the BBL final to Perth Scorchers. He has since played two Sheffield Shield games for New South Wales, with the last of those finishing only on Thursday before the injury news broke.

He was the only uncapped overseas player signed at the 2026 auction, which made him an interesting selection by SRH and that debut will now have to wait until at least IPL 2027.

The bigger picture at Sunrisers Hyderabad and a growing injury list ahead of IPL 2026

Jack Edwards is the latest addition to what has become a significant injury concern for SRH heading into the season. Pat Cummins is recovering from a lumbar stress injury and will miss the start of the campaign with no clear timeline on when he will be available.

Ishan Kishan has been confirmed as stand-in captain in Cummins’ absence. Kishan led Jharkhand to their maiden Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title earlier this year and his recent form with the bat earned him a place back in India’s T20I squad for the World Cup making him a natural choice for the captaincy role.

The broader picture of Australian fast bowling injuries heading into IPL 2026 is also worth noting. Josh Hazlewood is missing the start of the season for RCB with hamstring and Achilles issues.

Nathan Ellis has been ruled out of the entire tournament for CSK with a hamstring injury. And now Edwards joins Cummins on the SRH injury list.

Four Australian fast bowlers affecting four different franchises before a ball has been bowled is a situation that adds an extra layer of uncertainty to what is already an unpredictable start to the season.
