Rajasthan Royals (RR) all-rounder Sam Curran has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League 2026 due to injury. Curran, who joined RR after being traded from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) along with Ravindra Jadeja in exchange for wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson, struggled in the 18th season, amassing 114 runs and taking one wicket as the five-time champions finished 10th for the first time.

The player recently represented England in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, where the Three Lions lost to India in the semi-final.

According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, Curran is down with a groin issue. After an ordinary IPL 2025, Curran was hoping to make his performance count for his new team. However, his hopes have been shattered by the injury setback.

RR was hoping to get the best out of the English player after his move to the 2008 champions in a deal involving two star Indian players. Samson was with Rajasthan for 11 years and even led the franchise to the final and the playoffs. He is their most successful captain and the highest run-getter.

Samson is in good form and was named the Player of the Tournament in the T20 World Cup. He scored over 300 runs and played three-match winning knocks for the Men in Blue. He is expected to open the innings with Ayush Mhatre.

CSK have assembled a young team, and Samson is sure to play a key role for the Chennai-based franchise. Samson is happy after joining the Super Kings ahead of the new edition. The fans of the Men in Yellow are supporting Samson.

Samson will be a part of the leadership group and could play as a wicket-keeper batter if MS Dhoni decides to sit out of the few games to manage his workload. Injuries in the last few seasons have impacted the 44-year-old, and it is likely to be his last season as a player.
