Before the start of IPL 2026, Sunrisers Hyderabad has made a big change. The team’s regular captain Pat Cummins will be out of the initial matches due to injury. In his absence, Ishan Kishan will be seen taking command of the team. At the same time, Abhishek Sharma has been given the responsibility of vice-captain.
Before the IPL 2026 starting from March 28, Sunrisers Hyderabad has made a big announcement and changed the captaincy of the team. Team’s regular captain Pat Cummins will not be able to play in the first few matches due to injury, due to which Indian wicketkeeper batsman Ishan Kishan has been made the captain in his place. At the same time, young opener Abhishek Sharma has been given the responsibility of vice-captain.
Giving information through its social media, the franchise said that Cummins will remain out of the team for the first few matches till he is completely fit and till then Ishan Kishan will take over the captaincy, while Abhishek Sharma will be the vice-captain of the team. Let us tell you that this will be the first time that the IPL season will start with the Indian captains of all the 10 teams.
Pat Cummins has been struggling with fitness problems for some time now, especially his back injury which has troubled him a lot. He has not been able to play much cricket since July 2025 and due to this he was ruled out of the Ashes Test series and then the T20 World Cup 2026. Now his absence even in the initial matches of IPL is a big blow for the team.
At the same time, for Ishan Kishan this opportunity is no less than a big break. His performance in recent months has been excellent. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament, he led Jharkhand to its first title under his captaincy and was also the highest run scorer.
Apart from this, he also made an important contribution to Team India by batting brilliantly in the T20 World Cup 2026. He was India’s fourth-highest run-scorer in the tournament, scoring 317 runs at an average of 35.22, which can be gauged from his form and confidence.
Now it will be interesting to see how Ishan Kishan fulfills this responsibility as captain and how much strength he can give to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the beginning of the tournament.
