Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy honored Indian cricketer Tilak Verma after India’s historic win in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. India won the honor after winning the final by defeating New Zealand by 96 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The win marked India’s quest for two consecutive T20 World Cup titles, further cementing India’s status as a powerhouse in international cricket.
India achieved the distinction of becoming the first men’s team to successfully defend the T20 World Cup title. Tilak Verma performed brilliantly in this tournament. He scored a total of 207 runs in 9 matches at a strike rate of 154.47, which proved his important role.
Meanwhile, former Australia captain Ricky Ponting praised the Indian cricket team and said that the current Indian team has established itself as one of the strongest white-ball teams ever. Ponting attributed India’s success at ICC events to its deep experience, consistency and the depth of the team.
“Not even the T20I team, but their record in ICC events over the last five or six years is really fantastic,” Ponting said. He praised the depth and strength of the team and said, “Many people recognized the potential of this team early on.”
Ponting further said, “This is not just a T20 team, but a very, very strong Indian white-ball team. After back-to-back World Cup wins, hats off to them.”
Tilak Verma played a key role in this victory, and his performance contributed to the success of the Indian team. The brilliant innings played by him and the strength of the team made India the winner in this big tournament.
