Rohit Sharma will lead India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. However, his form has become a concern for the former players. Rohit hasn’t been able to score heavily for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League 2024.
The situation is so bad that the team management is using him as the Impact Sub. Apart from one century against Chennai Super Kings, the 37-year-old hasn’t been able to contribute.
The left-arm seamers have troubled him from the start of the 17th season and his fitness is also under the scanner. Irfan Pathan called out Rohit and MI captain Hardik Pandya for their flop show.
“Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma’s form is a big worry for Mumbai and Indians. You hope that they come back to form quickly,” Irfan wrote on X.
Virender Sehwag also questioned Sharma’s approach against the Kolkata Knight Riders. “Rohit and Suryakumar could have won the game for Mumbai Indians had they not gone after the spinners. You should respect good balls instead of trying to hit them for fours and sixes. Vaibhav Arora, Mitchell Starc, Andre Russell and Harshit Rana had overs left and the two star batters should have waited,” Virender Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.
Amid the criticism, Ojha backed Rohit Sharma. “Don't doubt Cheetah's rice, Baaz's gaze, and #Rohirat's batsmanship…! #T20WorldCup24 #TeamIndia #twopillars (The gait of a cheetah, the vision of a hawk, and the batting skills of Rohit & Virat are never doubted),” he posted.
Rohit will still have one more opportunity to bounce back when Mumbai will take on Lucknow Super Giants on May 17.
