Kevin Pietersen, who was associated with the Delhi Capitals as a mentor, has left the franchise before the start of the Indian Premier League 2026. The 45-year-old joined the team before the start of the 18th season, but the veteran decided to part ways with the franchise he once represented as a player.
He said that he can’t commit the time the role needs, but confirmed his return to the tournament as a commentator.
“I will not be serving as a mentor of the Delhi Capitals in the upcoming IPL season. I cannot devote the time that the role requires,” Pietersen wrote.
“I wish all the players the best for the new season. However, I will return to the commentary box. IPL is the best T20 league in the world, and I can’t wait to see all of you in action,” he added.
DC finished fifth in the previous season despite starting strongly. The Capitals recorded 15 points after winning 7 matches. They lost 6 contests, and one of their games was called off due to rain.
KL Rahul scored 539 runs, while Kuldeep Yadav took 15 wickets. For the IPL 2026, they signed David Miller, Ben Duckett, Pathum Nissanka, Lungi Ngidi and Kyle Jamieson. Delhi Capitals will start their new campaign against Lucknow Super Giants on Wednesday, April 1.
