Delhi: The discussion regarding Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s Indian Premier League (IPL) future has once again intensified. Like every season, this time too the question is being raised whether this will be his last IPL. Meanwhile, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has given a big statement about Dhoni’s future and has indicated that this season could be the last IPL of his career.
For the last few years, before every IPL season, there are speculations that Mahendra Singh Dhoni may now retire. Especially after 2023, this discussion has become more intense. However, even at the age of 44, Dhoni continues to surprise everyone with his fitness and dedication towards the game. Every time he comes on the field, he has proved the speculations of retirement wrong.
Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan believes that this season could possibly be Dhoni’s last IPL. According to him, the identity of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is linked to Dhoni and it is not easy to imagine the team without him. Pathan said that whenever the IPL starts, Dhoni is seen in the field again, which clearly shows that he is still completely fit and ready to play.
Irfan Pathan also said that Dhoni’s presence will be very beneficial for the young players and leadership group of the team. Giving the example of Sanju Samson, he said that if he becomes a part of the team’s leadership group, he will get a chance to learn a lot from Dhoni. Although the team captain is Ruturaj Gaikwad, but keeping the future in mind, the franchise would like to prepare two-three players for leadership.
According to Pathan, it is difficult to say how many matches Dhoni will play this season, but his presence is a big strength for the team. Especially his experience in the dressing room and ability to keep the players united has a positive impact on the team’s performance.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been associated with Chennai Super Kings since the first season of IPL i.e. 2008. Under his captaincy, the team has created history by winning the IPL title five times. Chennai last won the trophy in 2023.
Now the team will once again enter the field under the leadership of new captain Ruturaj Gaikwad with the aim of winning the title. Both Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians are jointly among the most successful teams by winning the IPL trophy five times each. In such a situation, this time CSK will be eyeing its sixth title.
