Delhi: The Indian cricket team created history by performing brilliantly in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav, India won the title by defeating New Zealand in a one-sided match. In this match played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the Indian team maintained its dominance from the beginning and won the final and made many records in its name.
In the final match, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner won the toss, but decided to bowl first. His decision became a big point of discussion after the match. Many former cricketers and experts raised questions on this decision and called it a big strategic mistake of New Zealand.
Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly also reacted to this decision and believed that New Zealand adopted the wrong strategy after winning the toss. He said that giving a strong batting team like India a chance to bat first was like putting oneself in trouble.
In a conversation, Ganguly said that the New Zealand team came under pressure shortly after the start of the match. According to him, the match started at 7 pm and within about half an hour it became clear that India was completely dominating the match. Ganguly told that while watching the match, he had told the people sitting with him that after winning the toss, New Zealand had made a big mistake.
Praising the batting lineup of the Indian team, Ganguly said that when a team has players like Ishan Kishan, Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dubey, Tilak Verma, Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel, then giving him the opportunity to bat first can prove costly for the opposing team.
He further said that India also has a world class bowler like Jasprit Bumrah, who has the ability to change the course of any match. In such a situation, New Zealand’s decision proved costly for them and India took full advantage of this opportunity and won the final match.
