In a few days, the 19th season of IPL will also start and then the battle for the title will continue between 10 teams for 2 months. Before the start of the IPL 2026 season, every team has made some changes, whether in the squad or the coaching staff. Rajasthan Royals have also changed their captain.
Amidst all this, speculations and rumors of change in the captaincy of Kolkata Knight Riders have been continuously flying. Now, about two weeks before the start of the tournament, suddenly there is a claim of KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane stepping down and the reason for this has been a social media post, in which Rahane has announced to step down from the captaincy.A statement has been posted on the social media platform 'X' from an account in the name of veteran batsman Ajinkya Rahane. This statement appears to have been taken from Rahane's Instagram account.
It is written in it, “Kolkata Knight Riders It was an honor to captain the team and win the match. “Now that the new domestic season is coming, I feel this is the right time to groom a new leader and that is why I have decided not to continue with the captaincy.”Thank you

The date of March 12, 2026 is also written above this statement and it surprised everyone on social media. So has there really been a change in the captaincy of KKR? Is this statement true? No, this is not true at all. Neither Rahane nor KKR has made any such announcement. After checking Rahane's accounts on all the social media platforms, it has been found that he has neither posted any such statement nor has he left the captaincy.
That means this statement of Rahane announcing his resignation from captaincy is completely fake.
The truth of this statement is only that Rahane had made such an announcement last year but it was not about the captaincy of IPL, but about leaving the captaincy of Mumbai team in domestic cricket. The language of what Rahane had written then and the language of this fake post are similar. Just by editing the original statement, the name of Kolkata Knight Riders has been written in it instead of Mumbai.Captaining and winning championships with the Mumbai team has been an absolute honour.
With a new domestic season ahead, I believe its the right time to groom a new leader, and hence Ive decided not to continue in the captaincy role.
I remain fully committed to giving my best

Rahane was appointed captain of the team only last season, when title-winning captain Shreyas Iyer joined Punjab Kings in the mega auction in 2024. However, under Rahane's captaincy, KKR did not get the same success as in the previous season. The team could not qualify for the playoffs. But despite this, Rahane will take command of the team in this season too, where KKR's first match will be played on March 29 against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium.
