Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah stated that his motivation for playing cricket comes from wanting to be there in pressure situations and execute his plans, as he played a vital role in India’s triumph in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Bumrah played a key role in bundling out finalists New Zealand for 159, with figures of 4/15 in a Player of the Match performance at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, March 08. India posted a mammoth 255/5 in the first innings, winning the final by 96 runs. Bumrah was elated at being able to win a final at his home ground in Ahmedabad.
"I always wanted to do a tough job. I've played cricket for that. I started cricket for that. When I'm able to make a difference, that gives me so much joy. No better feeling than that. I started my cricket here. I played all my cricket here come up the ranks through playing for Gujarat over here and winning the World Cup here, winning, being Man of the Match," Bumrah said in a video posted by the BCCI.
The speedster spoke of the 2023 ODI World Cup final and the failure to get over the line on that occasion. The game was held at the same venue, and a Travis Head clinic took Australia to their sixth title.
"The last time we just fell short, this time we went over it. Really happy. My son came. He was there last time as well; this time, he was there. My mum came really special. I don't know about full circles, but really, really happy back-to-back World Cups never really happen. Really grateful God is really kind, and I couldn't be more thankful," the Indian seamer concluded.
The Ahmedabad-born finished the T20 World Cup with 14 wickets, the joint highest for the Men in Blue in the tournament alongside mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy.
His tournament economy of 6.21 was impressive and showed how much batters struggled to score off his bowling.India became the first team to successfully defend the T20 World Cup, also becoming the first three-time champion side and the first host nation to win the trophy.
