Sanju Samson’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign was extraordinary, and the wicket-keeper batter credited his wife for the success he achieved during the tournament.

He tallied 321 runs in five matches and earned the Player of the Tournament award, thanks to a phenomenal late-tournament surge that reshaped India’s prospects. His 97 against the West Indies arrived when the team desperately needed momentum. He then scored 89 against England, a knock that helped India reach the final.

On the biggest stage, his 89 against New Zealand sealed the championship. Despite these remarkable feats, Samson’s most touching reflection came through an Instagram post, revealing the personal emotions that fuelled his on-field heroics.

“Right from the day i met you, till this day of my life…!! Thank you so very much for being by my side, loving me for who I am and being absolutely true and honest to me no matter what i was to the outside world. Seeing my best side, seeing my worst side, you have seen it all and still stood strong by me..!!

“Thank you for understanding how big cricket is in my life and making it the same for you. And you have wished and dreamed with the same passion and intensity as i did for this moment. Thank you so very much my dear Pondattiiiiii,” Sanju posted on Instagram.

The complete story came out later when he addressed the media in Thiruvananthapuram. “Immediately after the New Zealand series, I was in a very negative mindset,” Samson told reporters.

He spoke about the support from his wife. “I realised I might not make the team, so I asked her to be by my side because I wasn’t in the best frame of mind. She supported me and helped me stay mentally strong, which was crucial. When she’s around, I feel more positive, I laugh more, and I smile more. She kept my spirits up. And when I was happy and got the chance to play, I gave it my all.”

Sanju Samson also shared his feelings about returning home after the final and seeing his parents first. “Right after winning the World Cup, I wanted to be home. The first people I met were my parents and they were overjoyed. I’m extremely grateful to both my father and mother. They were the ones who introduced me to cricket, gave me the foundation, and shaped me into the player I am today,” he added.

“I’m deeply thankful to fans and well-wishers around the world for their messages and support. I appreciate all the prayers I continue to receive. We all understand the strength of heartfelt prayers,” he concluded.
