In a bizarre turn of events during the recently concluded Sheffield Shield game between South Australia and New South Wales, Charlie Stobo was seen retrieving the cricket ball with the tree twig at the Karen Rolton Oval in Adelaide.

In the video, shared by Cricket Australia’s official social media account, South Australia batter Liam Scott pulled a short ball from Ryan Hadley for a massive six over the square leg region. The ball got on to the bankings and trickled under a fence. With Stobo not able to get the ball back, he used an unconventional technique to pull the ball back with the help of a stick he found on the ground. He later lied down on the ground to get the ball back successfully.

Seeing an antic like this unfold during a cricket match created a moment of amusement, with Stobo going viral on the internet for using his presence of mind.

Notably, Scott hit two sixes on his way to 61 in the first innings to help South Australia post 373 in the first innings. The hosts would go on to win the game by nine wickets, having given a target of just 95 to chase down in the second innings. Seamer Nathan McAndrew was declared the Player of the Match for taking eight wickets in the game, including figures of 6 for 55 in the second innings.

There was also a healthy contribution with the bat from Jason Sangha in the first innings, scoring 115 from 178 balls. His innings comprised 16 fours and two sixes.

With one round of Sheffield Shield action to go, South Australia currently find themselves second in the points table while New South Wales are fourth. The final of the competition is set to take place from 26 to 30 March.
