India Smash Highest Powerplay Total in T20 World Cup

Suryakumar Yadav-led India set a new record for the highest powerplay total in T20 World Cup.

Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan, who opened the innings for India during the finals of the T20 World Cup 2026, smashed the highest-ever powerplay total in the tournament.

The Indian openers dominated the first six overs with aggressive strokeplay, putting the opposition bowlers under immediate pressure. They went on to put 92 runs on the scoreboard in the powerplay.

India had troubles during the initial stages of this edition of the tournament. However, bringing in Sanju Samson, India’s top-order woes were settled.

Abhishek Sharma, who did not have an impressive campaign, stepped up in the finals and added scores to the scorecard for India.

Abhishek Sharma went on to slam an 18-ball fifty and lost his wicket for 52 runs to Rachin Ravindra. From a wide delivery, Abhishek Sharma lost balance reaching for it.

The previous highest powerplay scores come from the West Indies during the T20 World Cup 2024 game against Afghanistan, who also added 92 runs but lost a wicket.

India also made a record for smashing the fastest 100 in the T20 World Cup knockouts. They reached a hundred in 7.2 overs, which is the current best.

The second best is also from this edition of the tournament where New Zealand reached hundred in 7.5 overs.
