All-rounder Amelia Kerr broke a 44-year record by registering the best bowling figures by a New Zealand bowler during the second ODI against Zimbabwe in Dunedin on Sunday.

Kerr returned figures of 7/34 in 9.1 overs in New Zealand’s thumping eight-wicket win, surpassing fellow leg-spinner Jackie Lord’s 6/10 against India in 1982.

The 25-year-old also became only the seventh bowler in women’s ODI history to pick seven wickets in a match. Later in the day, skipper Kerr also scored 45 runs off 40 balls while opening the batting as New Zealand chased down the 103-run target in just 16.2 overs to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

In the series opener, Kerr had picked up 4/35 in 10 overs as Zimbabwe was bundled out for 174 while chasing a mammoth 355 runs.

Kerr, who was Mumbai Indians’ top wicket-taker in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) earlier this year, has continued her rich vein of form in the ongoing series against Zimbabwe. She was named the player-of-the-series in the T20I leg against Zimbabwe for scoring 183 runs and taking four wickets.
