India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav refused to give importance to Mitchell Santner’s comment about silencing the home fans ahead of the World Cup final between the two teams at the Narendra Modi Stadium. New Zealand skipper Santner said that his team would try to silence the crowd when they take on the Men in Blue on March 8.
Santner’s remarks were similar to what Pat Cummins had said before the 2023 ODI World Cup.
“The goal is to silence the fans. We will try to play the way we have been doing in this tournament. India are favourites for the title, and we don’t mind it,” Santner said.
When Suryakumar was asked about Santner’s statement, he responded with a smile, saying such statements from the rival team have become common before big contests.
“Everyone says the same thing. They should come up with something new,” Suryakumar told reporters.
The 35-year-old admitted that leading a team in the World Cup final is not easy.
“Everyone is excited in the camp. We have a very good environment in the group, and we are looking forward to the final,” he added.
“There would be pressure, and I can’t deny that. There would be added pressure, and it is exciting to play a World Cup final in India,” he mentioned.
New Zealand made it to the final after defeating South Africa at the Eden Gardens, while India thumped England in the second semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium.
